The first effect of space flight is the net fluid shift. On earth 2/3rds of your blood is in your venus blood flow because gravity makes it pool at your feet. When you enter a low gravity environment nothing keeps the blood in the venus system so it shifts to the heart and causes a increase in your blood pressure. To fix the blood pressure your body produces urine and an overwhelming need to pee.

John Glen wet him self during the first space flight because of this effect.

P. falciparum infection in humans begins when an infected Anopheles sp. mosquito takes a blood meal and injects infective sporozoites into (1) the peripheral circulation. (2) Within minutes, these sporozoites invade hepatocytes in the liver and, over approximately one week, undergo asexual multiplication, producing tens of thousands of merozoite forms of the parasite. (3) When the infected hepatocyte ruptures, merozoites are released into the peripheral circulation. (4) The merozoites invade red blood cells (rbcs) and (5) complete another round of multiplication within 48–72 h, with the production of 16–20 additional merozoites per rbc, which devour the rbc haemoglobin in the process. (6) The released merozoites invade additional rbcs and carry on the cycle. It is the synchronous release of merozoites that is thought to be responsible for the periodic fevers associated with malaria.

Plasmodium falciparum is one of four distinct species of the malaria parasite that affect humans, of which two predominate as threats to public health. Plasmodium falciparum is found globally but is commonest in Africa. This gives rise to acute infections that may rapidly become life-threatening. Chronic infections also cause debilitating anaemia. This disease that affects 300 million people worldwide and results in approximately 1.5 million deaths each year. However, as it is more diffused in Africa, I don´t think that the rate of infected US patients (especially after being in a hospital) would be very high.

Is the question of microgravity linked to malaria? As I can´t see the link...
