I went Monday to the dog pound and sponsered a dog..all this means is that I paid the adoption fee $60.00 to get her vaccinated and fixed so she could avoid euthanasia the following morning, and she would then be placed up for adoption. Tuesday she got adopted by a rescue that is supposed to come her her this upcoming tues. However when i went to visit her yesterday she was close to death, would barely move and the warden said she didnt send her to get fixed that morning because they figured she would die. So I offered to take her to the vet since they wont. She allowed me to and had me sign a paper that said I would bring the dog back from the vet. When I got the dog (Halo) to the vet she has Parvo and Pnuemonia and has to be hospitalized to stand a chance (upwards of $600.00) I feel like after I put this $$ into this dog she should be mine, how do I fight the paper I signed?

I am wondering why you didn't just adopt the dog rather than "sponser" him.

I would imagine that since you signed the agreement to bring the dog back, you may be held to that. Since it is a rescue organization that is adopting him, you may be able to work something out with them (get the dog back from them).

But you are probably obligated to at least take the dog back to the pound

I'm not really sure you should. You payed and signed to take the dog out and help it get treatment, you cannot simply apply to receive the dog for free, that wasn't the agreement. You chose to invest your money into this dog away from any other agreement with the dog pound.

However, talk to the people at the dog pound and ask if since your previous sponsorship fee for having the dog fixed to avoid euthenasia can be applied towards a reduction in cost of adoption. You could make your case to them based on the fact that you're a good adoptive parent because you already took the dog to the vet. Also they failed to meet their end of the deal by not going through with the procedure you paid for.

Or you can talk to the agency that is adopting her, and tell them what you've done and that you'd like to take the dog. They may look kindly on your treatment of this particular animal.

Have you contacted the rescue about the dog? Rescues can have different criteria for adoption, but I think you have shown an admirable commitment to Halo.

Most rescues are seeking suitably stable homes. What are your other qualifications? For example, do you have the space and time to take care of her? Worst case, maybe you can turn Halo over to the rescue and apply to adopt her.

In any case, bless you for doing the right thing by taking the initiative that very well may have saved her life!
