they use what is nail art polish it comes in different colors with a very thin fine brush rather than a regular; thicker brush that you will find in your typical nail polish bottle. You can buy it at your neighborhood beauty supply store. In the past I have purchased white; black and silver(all seperate colors)

I'm looking for the same liquid too! The nail salons in question have been using the same liquid forever. One time I was told to put my hands close to a fan to dry my nails and I got too close and the nail tech dipped her brush in the liquid and brushed it over the top of my nail that dried unevenly from the fan and wa la, it miraculously fixed the uneven top coat and my nail dried evenly. WHAT IS THE LIQUID????

maybe they stick surgical tapes over the nails, leaving only ends to be painted white. when done/dried, the tapes are then removed. that's why you still get straight lines even when it's a sloppy work.
