I just bought a viewsonic 19" widescreen monitor for work and the image is not optimized....The computer's resolution only goes up to 1280X1024...The monitor says it needs to go to 1440X900. All that I have in my computer is a Intel graphics controller 82810.

I have tried downloading and updating the driver but nothing happened...Can I make the image better somehow or should I just go get a 19" standard monitor?

Unfortunatley your graphics adapter cannot support 1440 x 900.

Personally ... I would keep the LCD & get a better adapter that does support that resolution.

I assume you have done all Windows Updates, Express AND Custom. The Custom Button shows additional software and hardware updates.

If the "Intel graphics controller 82810" can support 1440X900 and you downloaded the drivers from www.viewsonic.com, call the store where you bought the monitor.

That is a non-standard (Wide Screen) resolution and isn't natively supported in XP. They come with the graphics drivers.

You may also have to get the latest motherboard chipset and graphics drivers from the manufacturer's website and possibly upgrade your BIOS.

Tip: Do not try to use any resolution other than 1440X900, you could damage the LCD!

Check your refresh rate lowering it should allow you some higher resolutions and get close to your desired resolution
If your new monitor is a LCD flat screen you can afford to go to the minimum refresh rate of 60 because they don't suffer with flicker like the CRT type

Yep. Sounds like you need to upgrade your video card too be able to meet the requirements of your new monitor.

Once you do, enjoy that new widescreen!!

you're able to try this...purely determine you have a loose port to plug the video card into. there is basically one AGP slot on a motherboard, yet ther are distinct PCI slots, so which you will in all probability could desire to get a PCI card in case you aleardy have an AGP card put in.

Unfortunately, you will have to get a new one that supports that resolution. That is a common issue with widescreens.

Hope this helps

That's another problem of widescreen monitor.
See http://www.guipedia.net/guidewiki/Why_you_should_not_buy_widescreen_LCD_monitor
