Secret Window.. Mort Rainey (Depp), a writer just coming off of a troublesome divorce with his ex-wife, Amy (Bello), finds himself stalked at his remote lake house by a psychotic stranger (Turturro) who claims Mort stole his best story idea (changing just the ending)... (Hutton plays Bello's new boyfriend; Dutton plays a private investigator hired to make Turturro's character leave Mort alone.)
Ninth Gate.. while not a writer he is a bookstore owner.. Dean Corso, a rare book dealer was appointed by a renowned book collector Balkan to verify the authenticity of one of his book. According to sources, only three copies of that book exist but in three different places.

You've all forgotten his best role as a writer. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. He plays real life auther Hunter S Thompson. A trully famous person back in the day.
Just a warning, this movie isn't for the faint of heart. It really delves into the drug culture.

Besides Secret Window, he was also a writer in The Libertine. If you haven't seen it, check it out. It was beautiful and dark and a great look into that lifestyle and time period.
