AVG is probably running on an on-access scan of your computer. This means that everytime your computer accesses a file, AVG will scan the file your computer is opening for a virus. This is very processor intensive and is probably the reason your computer is slowing down.

Elfa is on the right track.
1. Remove all components of old AV Program(Norton has more than one!)

2.Download AVG 7.5 to a file and install it from there LATER

3. go to start/control panel/system and see how much ram you have. 256 MB won't be enough to run your computer and run the scan at the same time-Investigate buying more 1 GB is almost minimum today

4. When RAM situation is resolved- Go to AVG file and execute it(install)

Things should work better then.

"Downloaded it 7 times"- are you dial up????? If so I think that is normal, the file is big and the connection is small and you are getting too many errors during the download process.

You are DSL/Cable- Get an anti-spyware program like windows defender(free at the microsoft download center) and get that and scan before attemprting to get the avg

I bet you didn't remove your old Anti-virus program. You can only run ONE AV program at a time on your PC.

Each Anti-virus thinks the other is a virus, so they are endlessly wrestling with each other. Use Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel to remove the old AV.

Then, reboot and re-install the new AV.
