i'm trying to decide if it's worth it to keep him, santana, and papelbon as my fantasy starters, or trade one of them for a closer. what do you think?

Wins are almost impossible to predict. Lackey is a very solid starter and will do well, with anywhere from 14 to 18 wins, is my best guess.

As to whether you should trade one of these for a closer, it all depends on the league settings and the rest of the team. You need at least three good starters, almost certainly.

PS - Papelbon is obviously the one with the highest risk, but I think he'll do well. But even if he does well, he may not match Lackey, who is underrated and has a track record. And there are plenty who think he'll end up back in the bullpen anyway, so maybe you get your closer that way.

I think Lackey will have a good year...somewhere in the 15-17 win range.

Depends on your fantasy league as to what you should do. In my opinion, there are always a good 5 or 6 closers that emerge during the year, so just be quick to the waiver wire!

Lackey is a workhorse, and rarely an injury concern. I would expect at least 15 wins, with a high 3s ERA.

I think you have a solid rotation. I would go with that to start the season. Usually a new closer or two will emerge during the season, and you may be able to just pick them up over trading a solid player.

I think lackey will win anywhere from 14 - 16 games. He usually does pretty well. I'd get rid of Papelbon though. He hasn't started in the pros before and i don't think he'll do very good. The reason he was such a good closer is because closers go out there for one inning and give it everything they got for that inning. Hitters usually don't see a closer twice in one game which i think is also attributable to his success. As a starter he's gonna have to stay in there for at least five innings, and he'll go around the line up at least three times. I think hitters will pick up on his pitches and he'll get knocked around this year. Get rid of him for either another starter or a closer.

Lackey will do ok. I had him last year. He go 17-8, with a era of 2.37. This all depends on the Angels bats.
