After several months of threatening The Undertaker about a dark secret, Paul Bearer let the world know that Undertaker killed his family in a fire but his brother was still alive - Kane. At the first Hell in a Cell match, Kane made his debut by costing Undertaker a match with Shawn Michaels. Undertaker refused to fight Kane until he was burnt alive in a coffin at Royal Rumble 98.

In October 1997, Jacobs was repackaged as Kane, the half-brother of The Undertaker. He re-debuted in the WWF at Bad Blood 1997 on October 5, 1997, costing The Undertaker his Hell in a Cell match with then WWF European Champion Shawn Michaels. Kane and The Undertaker feuded with one another over the following year, during which time their history vis-Ã -vis one another was expounded upon.

I think it started at 1997, the first ever heel-in-a-cell... Undertaker vs. The HeartBreak Kid and brother Kane showed up, had some beat-ups and then, *poof!* Michaels won!
