American Revolution was shaped by the French Revolution and it gave the basic set up for the government of the US, troops were not able to help in most of the wars between British North America and the United States, Canada was forced to rely on itself because the British basically ignored them during most of the important fights which were occuring in Europe.
Hope this gave a start... I'm taking Canadian History so I don't know anything, really, about the effects on America.
