My sister committed suicide when she was nineteen. I can tell you firsthand that it is absolutely devastating. she did it on my mother's birthday. she suffered from borderline personality disorder.

I will never get to go to her wedding, spoil her children, or just be a sister ever again. My mother was robbed of her baby girl.

when a person is murdered, you can be sad for them and angry at the murderer. when a person commits suicide, you are sad for them and unbelieveably angry at them at the same time. I can NEVER FORGIVE my sister for what she did to our family. it was like a nuclear bomb went off at the dinner table. I miss her, I'm sad that my kids didn't get a chance to know her.

ALSO: family members that are survivors of suicide are 20% more likely than the average person to commit suicide.

Effects Of Suicide

It depends on the quality of how strong the family's faith is. I the past 13 yrs i have lost 2 brothers and a nephew to suicide. It seems this is one of the 3 usual ways that my family members exit this planet by.

If i replied that it didn't affect me i would be lying. It is very frustrating when this type of death occurs.i even attempted it many years ago but something happened that i didn't understand at the time but that becomes clearer to me as time goes by.

Isn't it amazing that we think this life is ours to live as we see fit, and that when it doesn't go our way , we think we have a right to "take ourselves out".i have come to the realization that , although w have been given free will , that we don't always exercise it properly. Sometimes we need help, help from others, to enable us to see the error in our thinking; sometimes help in the form of a guiding presence that can provide us with the truth of how precious a life form we are and that there is a place for us where we fit into the puzzle of life that not only fills a space that only we can fill, but that when the space is filled that , like a puzzle piece, it touches other "pieces", and so fulfills that for which it is intended.
My prayers and thoughts go to all who have experienced the crushing realization that someone we loved made a decision to give up on this life and make the ultimate decision, which,in truth, is an extremely self-centered one, and one of the most blantant forms of self-obsession that one can exercise.

Oooh, not good I can tell you that. My uncle took his life back in the mid 80's and his (my father's) family hasn't been the same since. Factions began blaming others and arguments broke out so now parts of my family don't talk or get along well with other parts. It sucks.

That and my Dad never talks about him... I was only an infant when this happened and I didn't even know that I had an uncle 'till just a few years ago.

Damn shame.

I really depends on why the person did commit suicide! If it was really no reason to do it then the family does have effects. It is the same as a familt member being murdered or killed!! Hope I helped.

I lost an uncle that way and it is very hard on family. It has been years now since the awful accident, but it makes everyone expecially my grandma wonder why?? what did I do?? If you have lost someone this way I feel so much for you and the best thing to do is TALK. Even though that is much easier to say than do. Just try everyone in the situation needs comfort from within.

No matter how close you are to your family if you try to take your life they are always going to be affected. I think people who feel like suicide is their only option are being selfish. They need help, and can not see that life is more than what troubles you now. Depression is a terrible thing and we all have felt it's wrath at one time or another in our lives. It's the people who choose to overcome it that will be able to help others. If you or anyone you know is showing symptoms of taking their lives, please please talk to them and try your best to get help for them or your self. Take Care.

2.5 yrs ago I found my son right after he shot himself in the head.I had him sit down, and I called 911.The paramedics put him in a drug induced coma, rushed him to a trauma hospital where they removed the bullet and his right temporal lobe. They told me and my ex husband [there is a good chance this is a mortal wound].They were wrong. He is changed,3 days after the wound his then neurosurgeon found a suedoanuerism in his frontal lobe and had to remove part of it.There is a filter in this part of your brain that helps with your perceptions and reactions. This does cause problems. He also has a left field cut in both eyes now because of losing his R temporal lobe. This bothers him because it means he wont be able to drive ever again. The way it effects me that bothers me is that he can get mad easily and call me filthy names.I try to schedule respite for myself, and get some kind of support.I am very thankful that he is alive and not a vegatable!

Devastation.

Unanswered questions as to why.

A feeling of abandonment.

A heartache that never goes away.
