I want to go back to college and I can not afford a four year school, so I thought I'd go the the local community college. I can get an Associates Degree with a concentration in Illustration. What kind of work can I expect to be able to get with that? Is it all going to be freelance work, where I'll need an agent? What exactly can I expect with that major?

you don't need a degree to be an artist . i've been a professional artist since my teens & am now i my 50's . i did go to college & received a degree in english/public speaking , paid for from my art ! i'm mainly known for my scupltures , but enjoy drawing . 've done t-**** designs & currently like tattoo art . i'm currently having a sleeve done with my illistrations . i have a 50's style sailor girl from the wrist to the ditch & am going with a japanese desigh on the rest of my arm , koi fish & waves . first , do what you love , then find the market for it . i speak at several colleges on the business of art & having a good solid business background , & a strong command of language & writing skills are far more important than any degree , no one has ever asked me for a degree in the art world . learn to represent yourself, public speaking is also important as well as dressing business like (suits) for all meetings . first impression is soooo important ! need any more advice you can write me at popclt@yahoo.com , see my website at popclt.com good luck ! tp.mullin

You will really just get thesupervision to create a portfolio which you can truck around with to get freelance work.

Good luck: there isn't much money in illustration unless you can angle towards things like Pizza Hut menus.
