Hi,
I had a natural birth with my son and the scale of pain was definitely a 10. However, I was lucky enough that my labor was only 2 1/2 hours longs. The worst of the labor pains started about one hour before my son was born. If someone had to suffer through that pain for 7 or more hours I can't imagine it being easy. I also decided before the birth that I didn't want any drugs or an epidural because I was afraid of the effects these things would have on my baby. This decision was enough to keep me focused on giving birth naturally. That being said, many of my friends have used demerol or an epidural and swear by them for easing off the labor pains. There were no residual effects on their babies. I think that most methods of easing labor pain these days are monitored really well by the doctor and administered safely. Good luck!

Every delivery is different but there is a reason they call it labor. I didn't have an epidural with my second child and the pain was so bad that I started to pass out and that happened 3 times to where they had to break open the smelling salts. It is a very painful experience and I made sure that with my third and my fourth pregnancy that I had my I.V done with and ready for the epidural because even though my labors were short less than four hours it is still the most excruciating pain ever.

I think it's different with every birth.

My daughter (second child) was born completely naturally. I had a very fast and easy labor and delivery, I would rate it at a 5 at it's very worst and that was only for a short time before she was born.

My son's birth (first child) had to be induced two weeks early due to problems so I wouldn't say his birth was completely natural but I will say that it was EXCRUCIATING! I had 2 days of very painful labor that I would rate at an 8 up to a 10+ at it's worst. It was horrible and I'm amazed that I ever had another child after that.

I will say that it was all definitely worth it! I have two very happy and healthy teens now. They are wonderful, smart, and respectful kids.

Don't worry about the pain so much. A few hours of pain is well worth the reward of parenthood (although there will always be times when your kids make you pull your hair out).

i had a real easy labor and birth, completely natural, no epidural. the only medication i was on was the pitocin to speed it up some because it was taking so long. but i feel it was about a 7, the few weeks after i had my baby, now that was a 10, the pains from the tear and the pains from my uterus going back to size and the breastfeeding pains (i was doing it improperly for a while) anyway those were worse than labor

I had natural childbirth, without pain medications, with both of my babies, the first time I would give it a 7, I think I was so nervous with it being new to me that I really ignored the pain, I rate my second child 10+, early labor I will rate about a 4 but hard labor is def. a 10++++++

Everyone is different,I was terrified with my first labour. I won't deny it was painful but it wasn't the ordeal I was expecting. When my first son was born I thought "is that it" (about the labour, not the baby) I actually found my second labour worse because I was induced and basically strapped the a bed and covered in monitors. Mobility is the key to an easier and quicker labour. I have never had an epidural because I was too scared of the needle. The pain was never bad enough to override the fear.

Ahh, don`t scare yourself honey...Labour is different for everyone. How high is your pain tolerance..They do have meds to help. But to give an idea, contractions feel like a severe stomach cramp. If you have back labor, it`s very painful. Just worry about getting to the hospital and having a healthy baby..Good luck

I ended up having an epidural, but the pain until then was about a 20.

I had my natural and let me tell you, i let everyone get into my head saying oh it will hurt blah blah and guess what the only part that hurt was my lower back because her head was turned sideways. Everyone is different trust me, dont let people tell you a load of crap. To some women its painful and some its not. To me it wasnt. Just afterwards is the hard part because you're sore and you have to get up with the baby and the healing part sucks trust. Good luck if you're pregnant!
