I have a fish like this called mad max. He started off black but now he is bright orange and there is no black left on him, i researched it and they change colour when they reach maturity. So don't worry, nothing to worry about.

I have heard that they do grow back but that they wont be as large when they do. Just make sure the water is clean and keep up with your weekly water changes ( you should be doing 25% each week) so the fish doesn't get an infection. If you have any sharp ornaments, plants that may be rough or sharp gravel please remove them. A way to test to see if anything is sharp is to rub a pair of stockings over the decorations and if it gets stuck on it then it is too sharp and could pop the bubble. Is this fish in a tank with other fish? If so what types of fish are they? Because of their deformity they should only be with other fish like themselves or the other fish may pick on them and could pop their bubbles.

i had a black goldfish that did the same. It seemed to be fine but the bubbles kept coming back within days after popping. i was told that place I bought them from probably didn't keep the tank clean and it is a disease they get from dirty tanks while growing. My fish died about 2 months after I got him. I was told you can't do anything to help. I'm sure there are other reasons for the bubbles around the eyes, this is just what i was told about mine.

Sounds like a bubble-eye goldfish. His eye-sacks will never grow back. It must have been very painful for the poor fish when they burst. These type of human created deformaties are very cruel and painful, all for the sake of looks. Did you have sharp decorations in the tank that he rubbed against? Another explanation to the bursting and color change is a bacterial infection. You should treat him with antibiotics, preferably in a hospital tank.
