In my experience yes. My son was born by c-section, it was scheduled, and my best friend had her little girl 3 weeks later natural and I did notice that she didn't seem to sleep as much as my son did the day after he was born. He came out screaming like a banshee and you could hear him all the way down the hall. He has quite a good set of lungs. but after 2 days though you couldn't tell a difference.
I think its because of the drugs that I was given, they needed to work their way out of his little system. It had no long lasting effects though. If anything it did the opposite, no my son refuses to sleep and fights it all the time.

All 3 of mine acted the same, first was 20 hours of labor ending with a c section, the other 2 were scheduled c sections. They were all alert when hungry and slept the rest of the time, like every baby at that age.

I had my daughter by scheduled c-section and she was incredibly alert, much more than I was, I wanted to crash out soon after. A lot of women don't like that aspect but I really think that it gives daddy some time to bond with the baby also, and that's a good thing. All babies want to go to sleep shortly after they are born regardless of the method of delivery, but I think that my daughter was just as alert as babies born vaginally, if not more. My cousin had her baby two doors down from me the same day I had mine and mine seemed a lot more active and awake.

My babies weren't different at all. My first pregnancy was an ER c-section after 28 hours of labor. My 2nd pregnancy was twins and they didn't do to well at an appointment so they had to do an ER c-section and they were born 30 minutes after the spinal block. My sister had 2 natural births and the babies acted the same way as mine.

I can say no they are definitely not less alert. My daughter was c-section and everyone was and still is amazed at how alert and into her surroundings she is. My best friend had her son a month later vaginally and he's more relaxed and not nearly as "alert" as my daughter is. I think each baby is different no matter the delivery.

I have had 2 caesarians and a natural birth and did not notice any difference in the alertness of my babies. They all seemed very awake and alert.
My first baby was a scheduled c section, too.

I have a son born 14 years ago by c-section and a daughter born 8 years ago vaginally, both were crying before they had left my body. As far as alertness, both children were very alert at birth. With both I had labor inducing drugs and then pain killers. Neither were born "asleep" or dopey.

I'm not exactly sure about vaginal births since my only child was born by c-section, but let me tell you he was alert the second he came out! He was a screamer and his eyes were wide awake looking at everything the moment he came out. The nurses even made a comment about how alert he was!

My son, who turns 3 in two weeks was born by c-section because he was in distress. His umbilical cord was too short so everytime I would push, it would pull him back up. Plus he was 8 lbs and I am tiny. When he was delivered he was very alert and everyone commented on his color. He was not pink or too white. He had a little tan to him. I think that my c-section was the best way for me to deliver. Plus, I always have a reminder. My scar.

Absolutely not! I doubt it has anything to do with it, but I must say that my babies, esp. the 2nd one was scarily alert. She was acting seriously like a one month old or older at birth. She was also very big, though. My 1st baby was alert when she wasn't clammerin for a nap. (both c-sections)
