The Steelers 1976 playoff loss to the Raiders. The Steelers started the yera lossing four of their five first games then Bradshaw got hurt. The back up QB just handed it off tho Harris and Bleier. It was the best streak of defensive devastation ever seen in a single season. 22 consecutive quarters with no TD, 5 shut outs, 9 straight wins and only 28 points allowed. We finished with a 10-4 record and entered the playoffs and killed the Colts 44-14. We then lost to the Raiders in the AFC Championship game...talk about heartbreaking.

I would agree that the Bills comeback is the most improbable finish in nfl history but my all-time heartbreaking loss was in 1996 when Jax came in to DEN who was 14-2 in the regular season and Elway and T.D. where the 1-2 combination that was unstoppable and they upset the Broncos.
That was the best DENVER team of all-time and if they don't blow that game at home in the divisional round then they are the first team to win 3 straight super bowls.
The Bills came back from a 38-3 Deficit
What is this guy above me talking about the '72 Dolphins???They won the Superbowl for their 17th win jackass(14-7 against the Skins)

The Titans. One yard short in the Superbowl. That would just KILL you. I don't care what the biggest comeback is or whatever in that sense. This said biggest heartbreak. Maybe the Bills in the "Music City Miracle." Wouldn't it KILL you to know that it was a forward pass and it was ILLEGAL and you were knocked out of the playoffs? Also(and I believe all this was the same year as far as playoffs) when the Steelers lost to the Titans. Had the game won. It worked on icing the kicker. Then the Titans kicker pulls off the award winning act of faking he was ran into. Give that man an Emmy. He got them the penalty flag and then the game.

I am a Steelers fan so everytime they lose its a heartbreaking situation. I would have to answer your question with the Giants and the 49ers game where the 49ers came back and won. They were down 38-14 in the 3rd and won. I just remember that the Giants could have have won late but screwed up the field goal, although SF should have been called for a penalty and wasn't. Kind of reminds me of the 1990 Super Bowl

Most people would say the Browns in 86 and 87, but I say the Oilers. They had a team in 1992 that could have gone to the super bowl, but they blew a 35 point lead, and then missed a field goal in overtime. The play that did them in, though was a touchdown Buffalo shouldn't have gotton. Don Bebee stepped out of bounds before he touched the ball. If the play was reviewed, the outcome might have been different.

It would be the Oakland Raiders 1972 playoff loss to the "immaculate reception" of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
From Wikipedia:
The Pittsburgh Steelers trailed the Oakland Raiders 7-6, facing fourth-and-10 on their own 40-yard line with 22 seconds remaining in the game and no time-outs. Head coach Chuck Noll called a pass play, 66 Circle Option, intended for receiver Barry Pearson[1], a rookie who was playing in his first NFL game. Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw, unable to find Pearson while avoiding two Raiders defenders, threw the ball to the Raiders' 35-yard line, toward fullback John "Frenchy" Fuqua. Raiders safety Jack Tatum collided with Fuqua just as the ball arrived. Tatum's hit knocked Fuqua to the ground and sent the ball sailing backward several yards, end over end. Steelers running back Franco Harris, after initially blocking on the play, had run downfield in case Bradshaw needed another eligible receiver. He scooped up the sailing ball just before it hit the ground, apparently off the tops of his shoes, and ran the rest of the way downfield to score the touchdown that gave the Steelers a 12-7 lead with 5 seconds remaining in the game.

I'm going with the 1968 AFC Championship game between the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders.
With 1:05 left in the 4th quarter, New York leads 32-29.
Then suddenly, it happens. NBC stops running the game on their network, and switches to their Sunday night movie, "Heidi". New York fans flood the NBC offices and jam up their phone circuits, angered to view the rest of the game. NBC doesn't budge.
The poor New York fans were left sickened when they finally find out that Oakland scored two touchdowns in that final 1:05 to take Oakland to the superbowl.
ESPN did a funny commercial on it, where they said that Chris Berman's dad sat around in a catatonic state wearing a Jets cheerleading outfit for days.

This year's NFC Wild Card game between Dallas & Seattle. A botched field goal cost the Cowboys the game, ended their season, & led to Bill Parcells retirement.
