Coins are graded using very specific details and their worth is directly related to this grade. "Good shape" to you may mean something completely different to a collector.

Also, where the coin was minted and how many were put into circulation affects value.

Stop into a bookstore and go to the collectibles section. Find a book listing coin values for US coins and look up your coins.

My guess is your nickle is worth around $1.00.

The 1905 Liberty nickel or "V nickel" as it is sometimes called is not a scarce coin. It had a mintage of 29,825,124. In grade good-no detail in head, Liberty obliterated, the value is $1.35. In grade fine-all letters in Liberty legible, the value is $3.00. In grade very fine-Liberty bold including letter L, the value is $8.00. The coin is worth more if it grades higher. the prices are about what a coin dealer will pay.
