To Lynne G: Voting would be if people had perfect information on a candidate and acted rationally. Alas, we all can think of people who shouldn't have been elected or re-elected.

checks and balances. i think saddly is the answer and possibly the only answer to the question we have allowed the scope of the federal government to become so large and out of our reach of having any control or actual ability to make changes. this is not to say that we shouldnt vote because our votes do count at a local level. if we vote for our local electives that we feel will carry through with the proper actions and vote up the ladder. in a lot of years we may be able to touch the powers or make a change (directly) in the federal government.

I know of one source based on the voting records of congress on veterans issues. It only deals with actual votes, not gaffes misdeeds or crimes, and the rating is done by veterans. The link is below. The results are eye opening.

Objectivity in politics??!!

I certainly admire your optimism on trying to approach politics with objectivity in mind, but IMO you are destined for disappointment.

The magnitude of any action, heck, even whether it was a righteous or a bad action, is completely subjective based on political bias. Even facts and truth seem to be subjective and biased, at least to some.

Good luck with your search, but don't be despair if you don't find it - what you seek defies human nature.
