how the international driver's license works?

All the "international license" does is translate your current valid license into several languages. It is not valid in the country that issues it, so you need to get it before you leave on vacation for another location. You carry it with your valid license, and show both documents to assist the police in understanding what your license status is. Again, it is carried with your license, and is NOT a stand alone document.

It al permit not alicence to drive in another country. iwould advise being checked out by an instructor before driving in a strange place> you have get the permit before travelling. In Canada or the USA go to AAA. Be carefull i had a few bad rides with people with these permits:

Like a regular driver's licence but for foreign countries.
