is there really something to pay for its renewal?

you do need to renew it. You are not getting any new virus definitions. So any new viruses that come out you are not protected against. The program will still run, but you are not scanning for all viruses.

My suggestion would be to remove Norton because its a horrible memory hog and just a bad program and download one of the free virus software programs. the best one is avast at www.avast.com. Its free and works great.

Yes, you will pay for renewal - Norton is not free. That's why the popup message keeps appearing. Norton has not had a new release of their antivirus in over 5 years. If you have to pay for antivirus, you aren't necessarily getting the best there is. In fact, the two best antivirus programs are free: Avast Home and AVG 7.5. I've personally used Avast for 3+ years and never had a virus successfully get past it.

If you're asking for recommendations, my recommendation is to uninstall Norton and get either Avast or AVG. Here's where you can look at them and get more information:

Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Yes. Norton isn't free. You have to pay an annual subscription fee to continue to use it, even if the version you use now was included free with your PC.

If you want to try a free Anti-virus, go to www.symantec.com to learn how to remove Norton FIRST. This is no easy task! Then get AVG free OR Avast! 4 home.

This is really important: You can only run ONE anti-virus program at a time.

yes, u need to update the virus definitions of ur norton anti-virus, otherwise ur system is not protected from the latest viruses and threats.
and if u hav a genuine copy of norton then u need not pay for updating it.just select auto update from ur norton application, make sure ur connected to the net, then it will automatically update.or else u can go to www.symmantec.com and manually download the update files.

new viruses come out every day, if you don't update you may as well not have it running as the latest viruses are the ones that spread the quickest as there is no fix for them yet.

if you don't want to update, i would change to a free one, AVG can be good
