When I wake up in the morning I cough from stuff settled in my throat and there is always a bit of blood in it. When I cough during the day there in no blood in that. I think this may be settleing there from my sinus's. Has anyone else had this happen?

Nosebleeds are very common in pregnancy.

Blood vessels in the nostrils and nasal cavity are very sensitive at the best of times but during pregnancy the extra pressure put on them can cause them to rupture more easily. The blood either comes out down the nostrils or can go down the back of the throat.

Your mucous membranes are also in overdrive which will explain the clogged throat in the mornings.

It's inconvenient and a bit gross but normal.

As long as the blood isn't bright red and flowing down the back of your throat (coughing up streaky or dark red, blobby, mucous is ok) just ride it out. If you actually do experience a "nostril" nosebleed, you only need to call for help if the bleeding doesn't stop after about 15-20 mins.

Try and prevent nasal cavity and mucous membrane dryness by drinking more fluids.

Avoid air conditioning or dry air when you can - if you are able to run a humidifier in your room during the night this may help.

Try saline nasal spray as well.

It's yucky but normal. :-)

Being pregnant increases your blood volume, this is what causes the nasal congestion and severe dryness. You should always bring any concerns to your ob's attention, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem to you, just to be safe. Your body is going through lots of changes, and working very hard to take care of the baby inside of you, and you are going to experience things that are strange, and unpleasant. No two pregnancies are alike, so just because someone else experienced it doesn't mean you should or shouldn't. Your doctor is there to help you through this and answer questions, and believe me you aren't the only one that has asked it. Congrats to you and your expected little one, I hope you enjoy a happy and healthy pregnancy and delivery.

Yes. The winter air is dry, which can cause the blood. Also, pregnancy causes increased mucus and swelling of the mucus membranes, so both stuffy noses and sniffles are common in pregnancy. Every morning I blow my nose, I have traces of blood. During the day I am drinking lots of water, so my body is more hydrated and I don't get the bloody noses. You can use saline nasal spray at night before bed to help keep your nasal passages moist. I just keep forgetting to do it myself.

I'm still going through it. Every time I blow my nose there is a bit of blood there. You sinuses become congested especially after sleeping through the night. Its normal and I wouldn't worry about it. "What to Expect When Expecting" has a great section on nose bleeds and congestion. Good luck.

I was experiencing rampant nosebleeds every morning at the beginning of my second trimester. I bought a humidifier for the bedroom and have not had one since. It really helps.

do you have electric heaters in your house? Maybe the air is too dry. This happens to me but it is from the baseboard heaters. You can get a humidifier.
