My husband and I are thinking about moving to Kentucky. We currently live in Florida where I've lived my whole life (Except for a year and a half in Okinawa). We are looking at Bowling Green. Any helpful information about Kentucky would be GREAT!! We are tired of the high insurance and high cost of living here in FL. It's so crowded and expensive, we just cant make it here anymore.. How about the jobs up there?? My husband is currently in heating and air, which he's been in for about a year.

I have lived near Bowling Green all my life and travel there frequently. It is a wet county- if that matters to you. Your husband should have no trouble finding a job. There are several heating and cooling businesses in the area or he could more than likely have his own successful business.
I watch the Bowling Green news nightly and there is hardly any mention of major crimes in that area. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from and several shopping centers. I would say to come and visit and see what you think. Good luck!

Kentucky tends to be looked down on across the U.S. (I have heard the bare-foot and pregnant and red neck jokes) However (from someone who has lived in Central Ky my whole life), Ky is not what everyone else makes it to be. There are intelligent and talented people in Ky. Yes, you can run into some "unsavory" people - as I am sure you do in other states, too. Trust me -- I have been out of KY. We really are not that bad :)
The state is beautiful. We do have 4 distinct seasons - you know when it is fall vs winter! Ky is known for the Derby and the Bourbon. I think you will find real estate quite reasonable and in relation to jobs in heating and air - you should be able to do quite well. Last year my heat went out and I called several different companies and was told that it would be at least 3 weeks (mid Dec) before someone could get out to do an estimate!!! Ky is wonderful because if you want to live "in the city" - you can move to Louisville or Lexington, but you can have the luxury of living in the country if that's what you choose. I live within 45min.- 1 1/2 hour of anything I want - including big shopping and entertainment. I watch the news and hear about all of the stuff going on in the US - and see how everyone lives in really crowded cities and then realize how grateful I am to live here. I can't wait for my infant son to get to go out and play - and not have to take him to a park to do that! Please give KY a chance. Visit us.

I have family in Kentucky, but they are more in the central and eastern part of the state and Bowling Green is in the western portion. Kentucky is a great state. It's not a drunkard state like the above answers make it sound, but there are wet places in KY. I think I've only been out towards Bowling Green once, when I visited Mammoth Cave. It's a nice place as far as I know. Good luck and God bless.

the best part about Kentucky is it is the home of the Great Kentucky Bourbon Trail that visits the seven operating liquor stills in the state. And for us old drunks, that is like going to heaven.--Heaven Hills that is, the home of my favorite--Eligah Craig 12 year old Bourbon.
Other than being one of the prettiest states east of the Mississippi, Kentucky is relatively poor in job prospects. The GM Corvette Plant is in Bowling Green, apply there.

Kentucky is a pretty state. But I personally like TN a little better. I dont know if you guys enjoy alcohol but make sure you dont move to a "dry" county in KY. There are a lot of them there. KY is pretty though and there are a lot of nice people there. It is much cheaper than FL.
