Advantages of laptops:
portable, compact, detachable(use anywhere in your home/office)
Disadvantages:
Price, generally not as good video, more expensive to repair

The only advantage to a laptop is portability. If your going to leave your computer in the same place all the time, like on a desk, then a desktop would be a better choice. Because you'll get more for your money with a desktop.
Anything from Dell is good.

there is no such thing as a disadvantage of a laptop- honestly, unless of course you 'really' into your gaming, in this case a PC would be better for you needs. Go for a laptop made by HP rather than Dell,... i used to buy Dell laptops, however they are a constant pain in the ***, honestly, and their customer support is a joke- many of which have such strong Indian accents you can understand them once you do get connected. Go for that HP, trust me, you wont be disappointed.

1. Advantage is that they are portable, disadvantage is that you are typically going to pay more than you will for a desktop of similar performance.
