Thanks for your input. I'm sure that all of the "christian right" are hanging on your every word.
Remember that in American politics, it isn't so much about voting in favor of the guy you like as it as a matter of voting against the guy you DON'T like. It's a matter of voting for the lesser of two evils.
Now, has the Republican Party been "pandering to the christian right for years" ? No, the "christian right" have been repulsed by the Democrat Party, that's what has happened.
During the 1960s, the Democrats had control over all three branches of the Federal Government. And the U.S. Supreme Court seemed to have discovered the idea that the 1st amendment protects pornography. And that it prohibits teacher-led prayer and Bible-reading in school. The Court decided that "equal protection of the laws" means that state laws "discriminating" against illegitimate children (and their parents) are prohibited. Basically, the Court went waaaaaay over to the left and took away from Christian conservatives their ability to control the moral environment of their states. So the Christian conservatives (who used to be of either party) decided that they have to gravitate toward the party who hadn't taken away these political powers.
There have always been Christian conservatives who were successful at influencing their state governments to create laws that reflect traditional moral values. The Christians were probably Republicans in Utah, Idaho, Iowa, and the plains states, Democrats in the south, and either one in the Great Lakes. But they have -- since the 1960s -- unified behind the Republican party at the national level because the Republicans were not trying to use the federal judiciary to take away from the states their ability to "legislate morality."

The problem is, as much as we don't like some of the policies the Republicans have caved on, we are still better off with them than the liberal socialist atheistic democrat party in control. We cannot fall in to the trap of believing that the dems who are not lib / commie / Christian (yes, to the Christian libs, I know there are a few of you) will have any influence over what the party leaders and the judges they will appoint will do to our society. Like it or not, the real control of our country today is on the bench, and liberal, democrat appointed judges have proven time and time again that they intend to eliminate Christianity from our culture.
So please don't stay home. Hold your noses and vote Republican, because the alternative doesn't just stink, it is poisonous. And a third party vote might as well be a vote for the enemy.

The christian right has been betrayed by themselves. I as a christian would never betray my LORD and follow any group or organization that endorses assassinations, wars, poverty, homelessness, and lying. If The the christian right was actually a religious group they would condom this war since it was a product of lies. I think it is best illustrated by the person who answered this question with the remarks that a law that makes it illegal to discriminate against a illegitimate child a crime is wrong. I think that protecting a child for whatever reason is more christian than the organization that wants to label that child for life. And for a christian group to support a war is hypocrisy. Remember what JESUS said on his sermon on the mount "happy are the peacemakers for they shall see god". I don't think to many of the religious right are going to see god.

I think that it's time for everyone to be embarrassed by the "Christian" right. When a group of people who are supposed to be Christians call people names and want to take away the rights of certain people then there is something truly wrong. Christians are supposed to love their neighbor not hate them and try and take their rights away. When someone sins we are supposed to pray for them not hate them and try and ostracize them. Anne Coulter claims that she is a part of the Christian right but listen to her comments. She sounds more like a KKK member than a Christian.

Well ... it's a lesson learned . If you are commanded not to be a part of this world ..... not to prostitute yourself to the nations .... then .... you pay the price. Is it Jesus that is supposed to crush the serpent and the kingdoms of the world or is i the Republican Party of the US ? Just be obedient to leaders and government ... you don't have to go to bed with them .......
