The Hindu religion is too full of symbolism... so much so that over a period of time, the symbol becomes more important than whatever it symbolizes. Just a personal opinion.

Application of sindur for married women is a custom with a purpose.
1> Accupressure values. The way sindur and bindi are applied, a hormonal activity is initiated in women. These activities positrivelyy affect their health, pregnancy, and beauty.
2> Identification. It's a gesture to men around her - No need to try your luck here...
However, I haven't hear heard of any such symbols for married women in Islam.

i have no idea of what is the symbol of a married muslim woman. But until she is given *talaaq* three times by her husband, which is very horrifying.

There is no symbol in ISLAM for differentation between unmarried and married woman.We have to respect every woman irrespective of their marital status

Only, Hindu religion, differentiates married & non-married women. Other religion, Islam, Christianity, etc. does not have, any such customs, in vogue.
