Maybe they filled it up and did not tighten the gas cap triggering the light.

I think it's a coincidence. In fact, I think it's miraculous that it hasn't come on in all that time...those trucks are POS's. I have a 98 Tahoe that we baby, and I'll bet we get a check engine light once a month since the end of the warranty (almost to the day in fact).

Take it in to Autozone like someone else said, and have them run the codes off of the truck's computer for you for free. Then, they'll let you know what's wrong.

In a 10 year old vehicle? Coincidence.

probably a co-incidence. I did that on a friends nissan pickup.

But as far as autozone goes.....

go ahead and get the code scanned. But please please please don't take their word as law. They want to sell you more parts, plus, their code scanning machine is inferior to a shops. You really need to hook up to a professional mechanics OBDII scanner.

Whats more, a pro mechanic will be able to tell if the code is being tripped by some other faulty thing. My 99 hyundai had a bad mass airflow sensor, and it showed up as a Throttle position sensor.

This could be from driving habits. Yours obviously did not trigger the code, however, the other driver probably hammered it and found the engines sensors saw something wrong. Please have it scanned to pinpoint the problem.

This could happen to anyone anytime anywhere. with older cars its even more likely that it could come on. But some places do free computerized inspections. give that a try and see what wrong.

you may need a new oxygen sensor, look in your owners manual and find out how to read the codes programed into your van.

coincidence...most likely...take it to an autozone parts store...they'll tell to the code for free!
