Certainly not. With the human rights abuses in Gitmo, the rendition flights, the killing of civilians in wars for oil, the reining in of the civil rights on US citizens, the executions in numerous US states, spying on its own citiziens - the US is a Hypocrite if it questions the human rights record of others.
As for the idiot who mentioned bringing democracy and freedom to iraq!!! Surely he meant raping Iraq of its oil resources and installing a puppet govt in iraq!

It's the duty of anyone to say that something is not right here. US already did this. But US accuses only the countries who are against its policies. eg. US accused Saddam Hussein of not respecting Human Rights but US has never accused the President of Egypt though he is just a brutal dictator. US accused Saddam Hussein and sentenced him to death not because he was a dictator but because he said : "NO" to US. The Arab World especially is fulled of those dictators who are being supported by U.S.
U.S can accuse anybody, but if someone had some courage and accused the U.S of committig many crimes including what you mentioned, U.S has to listen to this accusation and admit it. Otherwise, it's not fair to punsih someone and let the other get away with it, although both of them share the same crime.

You have been listening to the "Blame America First" crowd.
The Italians were guilty of a torture incident which saved hundreds of lives. The infomant turned in his co-bombers but there was a liberal stink about the torture (which they are allowed but we are not, having chosen the Godly "High Ground".)
The torturers have all been jailed. End of story.Funny when Russians act upon people to recover kidnapped Russians...nobody says anything but when Americans, Italians, and British do this ...they are impugned and called heartless torturers by the World Press. Turks have a special "foot beating with a rod"...never mentioned by the World Press. When Reuters scatters brand new teddy bears to fake pictures and make the Israilis look like baby killers...that is overlooked and OK.

Joe M - "Yes, because we have liberated the people of Iraq from an evil dictator."
Yes you did and plunged them into civil war. Oh how happy they are that you did that for them ?
" We lead by example."
You certainly do. Right wing agendas and a population that has the lowest % of citizens that travel outside of their own country than almost any other "free" nation.

Yes because we are the largest free society in the world. Russia doesn't have the best track record on human rights, so Putin might just be getting bristled for no reason.

No, because of the hypocrisy of the Republican party, America has lost its reputation as the world's moral vanguard.
