Truly, home pregnancy tests are accurate but the biggest problem with them is that people take them too early.

After conception, it takes the embryo up to 12 days to implant and even begin to release hCG into the mother's bloodstream, and another few days for it to reach a level high enough to show up in the urine.

The very best thing to do with home pregnancy tests, even if they say "can be used up to 5 days before your period is due" is to WAIT until at least the day after you are late, to have a better shot at an accurate result. Taking them earlier is usually just a waste of your money, or will get you all anxious and upset if the tests are coming back negative when you actually may have in fact conceived, which won't do your or your baby any good at all.

If you absolutelky MUST know as soon as possible if you have conceived a better bet would be to visit the doctor about 10 days after possible conception for a blood test, which is more sensitive than a urine test and can pick up hCG in your system several days before a home pregnancy test can.

Best of luck.

2 weeks before your period is when most women ovulate. You really should wait until you've missed your period before you take the test. You get a much more accurate reading then. The ones that say you can take them up to 5 days before you missed your period don't state on the front of the box that 5 days early only gives you about a 54% chance of having an accurate reading. As it gets closer to your date, the chances become greater of a correct reading. If you really need to know early, you can go to your doctor and get a blood test, but they might only do them about a week early at the most.

Hope this helps and good luck to you!

Pregnancy tests are really not that accurate until a few days after a missed period. It would not show an accurate reading until the next month.

I've found the earliest any of my hpt ever came back positive(faint) was 10-11 days after conception. Which I guess is right around the time hpt say they can pick it up 4-5 days before a missed period.
