You should always present yourself in the best light possible at all times. You may be just be "dropping off a resume " but people are always around and you never know who will be nearby. I've known several people who were told by personnel that one of the reasons they were considered was the impression they made on the receptionist or that the vice pres. of so and so just happened to be passing by and noticed how professionally they presented themselves. I know people should be judged by their qualifications not their dress or looks but human nature is human nature and its better to be safe than sorry. You could always mail your resume in, that you could do in your PJs :)

Try a dressy casual look if you're simply dropping the resume off and only going to be there for that momentary in and go
You certainly don't want to do this in everyday knockaround junk !! You may only be there for a moment-- and you may only be looking eye-to-eye with a receiptionist or "counter person" BUT -- you are still "on stage" when you are coming into the work enviornment that you are applying to---AND at any moment---you could be face to face with the one doing the hiring here and you would certainly not want them seeing you looking like a street urchin (??) So, you don't have to be prepared to "meet the queen" BUT you should look sharp and "well heeled" !!!

If you're just dropping it off at the front desk then I don't see why you should go to all the bother of putting on a suit. There's no point wasting all that time preparing for a 10 second visit.

Remember that first impressions last; so if you are dropping it off at the potential manager's office, you have to look the part. Dress just the way you would normally dress when you go to work - semi-formal will do for most office jobs. You can wear the suit for the interview. Read more:

Dress to Impress

appearance is everything --- pending on how desperate you want the job =--- matters not that you are only dropping of a resume --- it is first impressions that take the eye .
let me give you a rather cynical overtone --- an alleged criminal / felon has to go to court to front --- lets say a magistrate --- have you noticed how well dressed they are --- and why !? --- because they want to impress !!! i rest my case . good luck .

Casual, but nice. Don't show up in jeans and sneakers. Slacks and a blouse will do nicely. You never know, they may invite you in for an interview right away.
