They certainly are better than plastic and wire ones. You could also get them covered - or do it yourself - for an even better quality hanger. You can put padded sleeves onto them.
I don't know where you can buy them, except that they do turn up in charity shops.
You can also use them for hanging out laundry for a more crease-free result after washing delicate items and woolens.

You can make plastic hangers useable to your taste they will work like wooden hangers if you just do this attach foam on those plastic hangers and they will work nicely without causing any bumps or creases in the shoulders or pants or you can simply put the padding from padded sleeves on the ends of the hangers. Simple and cheap and something you could have already in your home. Good Luck !

if you hung a thick fabric over the plastic hanger, then put your clothes on it, that might stop the creasing. One time, i used foam and glued it around a plastic hanger and gave it to my dad as a gift to stop the creasing. I think I wooden hanger would work as long as it is not too thin. Did you ever think about getting hangers with clips on them? So instead of hanging something over the hanger, you can hang them on clips? Superstore (canada), or maybe Walmart would sell those kinds of hangers. They work great! They can save a lot of space...well worth the couple dollars you spend.

fold your sweaters and you won't have to go out and spend all that money on expensive wooden hangers. if you notice in clothing stores, sweaters are usually found folded on a table and not hung up.

Hanger can certainly be a great alternative to heavier wooden or metal hangers for home or in-store garment displays. You can also visit: http://tiny.cc/closet-organizer
