I have a concern about reformatting my hard drive. I have all the CDs that came with my computer, and I want to reformat because I think I have a hijacker that I can't get rid of. I know I need to back up my files on CDs, but I'm concerned that after the reformat I won't be able to bring up Internet Explorer. I'm concerned about all the settings, etc.

I have emails on Outlook Express I'd like to save too. Is there a way to do that?

Any advice on how to go about this?

Why not use the file & settings transfer wizard to create a backup?

you only need to format your hard disk if your system is populated and cannot be remove virus thru antivirus software or manual removal. since you state that you only have a hijacker on your system you can remove it manualy if your software for removing this failed.

try locating first where the hijacker is installed or stored.

look at your process on your task manager and end task that is connected with the hijacker and other suspicious processes.

delete the hijacker from its location.

scan again your pc for any malware or virus if you found nothing then you succesfully delete it. update first your antivirus/anti-spyware first before scanning.

as long as you have internet connection anyone can get into your computer so it would be pointless just invariably change your security settings to keep em guessing or download some internet protection software from THE PROVIDER if available online is a death trap for trojans
