Guessing gender by the heartbeat is very inaccurate! I was supposed to be a boy according to that method, and well, I'm NOT ;) You won't know until they do the ultrasound at 18 - 22 wks.

I am pregnant with a girl and her heart rate was in the 160's and my Dr. said that it appears to be a girl w/ that range. I did have an ultrasound and they said that I am having a girl. It is possible that you are having a girl but, you don't want to go out and buy all these girl things and set everything up girl without being certain because I have four kids already and this baby will be #5 and, with my third pregnancy the Dr. said that the heart rate was at the range of a girl so I got so excited because I already had 2 boys and it turned out that it wasn't a girl it was another boy so that made three. With my fourth the heart rate was 138 which is supposed to be the range for a boy and it wasn't . I wound up having a girl. So, the rate for my now is girl and the ultrasound is girl so hopefully they right. I would wait and have an ultra sound done and at 20 weeks or further they can tell what the sex of the baby is as long as the baby is cooperating. Good luck to you.

Mmmmm....
Your doctor told you that the heart rate of a 12 week old fetus was within "the range" of a girl??
Trying to guess the sex of a fetus using the heart rate? It's right up there with "carrying low" or "carrying high" as far as accuracy goes.
I would never tell a patient something like this primarily because it is a complete myth.
The belief that fetal hear rate differs between boys and girls used to have acceptance within the medical community AT ONE TIME but it is no longer regarded seriously - the vast majority of OB's will go so far as to call it complete fiction.
You may be having a girl..... but then again you may be having a boy.... it has to be one of the other.

Change doctors now. I cannot believe a trained professional would spread old wives tales like that! Sounds like a quack. The heart rate has nothing whatsoever to do with the sex of your baby. I have given birth to 3 girls (And am due to give birth to another girl any day now) and their heart ranges have been all over the place, how you carry does not indicate a girl or a boy either. I've carried my girls low, high, and in the middle lol. All just wives tales. Find a doctor who is going to treat you based on fact and not fiction.

Does it really matter sweetie? Congrats for being blesses with the most precious gift you can ever receive but don't fret about the gender of your child. You should stay focused on taking care of yourself so that your baby, boy or girl, can be completely healthy and what you will do to be the best mom you can be.
Identifying the gender of a fetus by the range of the heartbeat is not accurate and hopefully you will get a second opinion on anything this current doc is telling you. I have carried two very healthy boys but through both pregnancies I had doctors telling me to have all types of unnecessary procedures because my babies supposedly had complications. I refused and had two perfect children. Please go with your first mind when dealing with some of these so-called health care professionals. Blessings...

Studies have found that you can not tell a baby's sex by listening to the baby's heart beat! Don't let it fool ya! The doctor, is he/she old"er" by any chance? congratulations by the way! Fun and exciting time!! There are a lot of other old wive's tales out there too!! If you search them type in "old wives tales pregnancy" and a whole bunch will pop up!! Have fun with it! Until your 5-6month ultrasound, you really won't be able to tell! Good luck

Old wives tale. When my mother-in-law was having kids all 3 were predicted by heartbeat and all 3 were wrong.
Just wait until your 20 week ultrasould, as long as the baby cooperates, you'll know then.

I am 14 wks pregnant and I asked my doctor about the heartrate of girls and boys. She said that there is no definite way to tell if it's a girl or boy. Wait for the 2nd ultrasound where you can see the sex of the baby.

Never heard that one before. We don't have specific tones of our heart, we have a pace but no one can tell gender from that as it is common to male and female, some quicker others slower. The only way to tell is through the scans you have, you should be due one by 13 weeks so if you haven't had one you need to. Even the scan isn't 100% reliable in the early stages esp the 1st trimester as it is dependant on the babys position. I would suggest you see a midwife as your DR appears to be telling you false info.

I have never in all my years heard a doctor talk about the heart tone. Wait til your ultrasound. Of course you could be having a girl but you could have a boy too. So patience the ultrasound will be soon.
