I am a USA citizen, according to our laws, a person can only be President for 2 terms of 4 years each term, after that, he or she can not be our President again. Now to answer you more clearly, The only way this can be changed is by our Congress voting on it, & we have to be at a major war like we were in in WW1 & WW2, & we are so tied up that everything is put into action for our troops. In WW2 they had to convert some factories over into making things for the War, But as the way the USA is right now, we won't have to do anything like that again, The war on terror is not at a point, that we have to use Nukes again, so our elections can carry on as they are suppose to. I know what you are trying to ask, so the best way I can answer you is, Yes, But only in a National disaster, Then he can only un long enough to get our laws back into action. The chances of this happening is less than 1%. But just for a President to say I am going to stay in office no matter what, NO that will never happen. Our President is not above our laws, He has to answer to the American people.

NO!!! That is not possible, not at all. The only way to serve more than one term is to be a vice president when a president dies. And without the consent of congress, no he cant declare marshall law. And why would he? Besides technically the war is over. It is now a conflict..we are just occupying Iraq, not at war with it. The government we went to war with has been torn down and a new one put up.

It is possible, if this country is attacked by a WMD, a nuke for example, it may cause people in all the cities to panic and lawlessness takes over, anarchy and total breakdown of law and order, if this happens, special powers may be needed as it is unlikely that we could be able to have a normal election as we would normally do so his term in Office may be extended.

Now that would truly be an injustice to the American people. To declare Martial Law without an immediate threat to the people, to totally discard the election process, these things simply won't happen.
The people wouldn't stand for that, neither would our soldiers. It's one thing to ask a soldier to hold a gun on the enemy, quite another thing to hold one on his own family. Americans are independent at our core and we raise our sons and daughters to think for themselves.
Think of the riots, the killings, the total bedlam that would be created in trying to keep every single American under Martial Law lol. It just wouldn't happen!

He could try but if you think things are ugly in America now they will get many times worse if he did. We don't want to see Revolution II to overthrow another King George.

nice..coming from "fruit cake" well. any who
yes, under certain conditions the president could call Martial Law..George W. Bush could be our last President..
Marcos in the Philippines ruled for over 20 years..until People Power..
but don't count on that happening her..few people would bother to get off their duffs to protest...
it only takes one person to be right..
George W. Bush said..I would rather be President then right
MIGHT MAKES RIGHT..honest Abe Lincoln....duh

This is probably possible to do, but it would probably be very difficult to enforce for very long.
He would send the world markets into a massive tail-spin and cause a world-wide depression, and please don't forget, that Bush and his buddies only get richer if they are fighting illegal wars elsewhere on borrowed U.S. money.
You see, America can only service its masssive foreign debt to China, if Americans go to work every day -- under martial law many would just stay home and protest the tyranny.
This 'doomsday' plot comes out of the fact that he stole that last election and will obviously lie, steal or cheat to stay in power -- in other words, just because we're paranoid doesn't mean the current government isn't out to get us . . .

no prefer for Bush to proceed in case your stupid dream comes authentic. McCain (born in Panama) would be President by using default. a minimum of that`s what i might wish. the only unfavorable element I see with it is Palin might connect him.

he could only do this if an invading force tried to overtake the us
not likely to happen in his term
or if a natural disaster was to inflict most of the nation and people started fits of chaos
and this is not likely to happen in his term either
