This is a problem that requires counseling, careful monitoring and understanding the psychological factors that cause this condition in more than 30 to 40 percent of today's teenagers. Sleep, exhaustion and tiredness are all stress related conditions and the reason for most of the stress in today's teenagers is either from relationships(friends/colleagues, parents & siblings) or situational (academics/jobs/work) Love, understanding and caring can go a long way in bringing the person back into normalcy. Being judgemental, accusing and critical can have a very detrimental and harmful impact on the psyche of the person. Please consult a good Counsellor before tackling this problem.

well, i've heard that if you sleep too much, you get tired even more during the day. everything depends on your body type and what not. i have a friend who plays sports, eats a fairly well diet, and does extra curricular activities who says he can truly operate off of 6-7 hrs of sleep. if he sleeps too long or too less, he burns out at the beginning of the day and takes a nap in his car until he feel energized again. you could always consult a doctor, but they'll probably say something along the lines of stress, too much sleep, or "here, i'll prescribe some (drugs) medication for 2 months. come back and tell me how they're working. okay?" [that's always the BS line] so, try experimenting on your own. flexing between what time you wake up, take naps, and sleep. okay. GOOD LUCK!

Could be diet because teenagers often don't eat right. Is your teen eating breakfast dailly? Check out www.mypyramid.gov to create a healthy eating plan. Fruits and vegetables are very important in the diet. They need to eat at least a combined 5 a day.

Sleeping too much can cause the body to feel lethargic even when it's completely recharged. A healthy amount of sleep is between eight and nine hours of sleep.

Have they had a blood test yet for Glandular Fever (Epstein-Barr Virus or Mononucleosis)? That's common.

What about low iron levels (more common in girls).

Any bullying at school or depression?

I prefer both fruits and fresh vegetables better, regardless how they look and taste. You desire a little of both.

If perhaps it's a fruit they have seeds, otherwise it's a vegetable. And vegetables are usually grown in the ground while fruits are grown in trees.

Measure the acidity of the urine or saliva when he is feeling great as well as when he is feeling tired. If the urine or saliva become more acidic when he is tired, then the acid-alkaline diet will help.
