She has never peed in the woods before, and we are going to be going on a hike this weekend. How do I help her accomplish this so 1, she doesn't pee all over herself, and 2 she gets the relief she will need when she has to go.

Try squatting down in front of her while she's squatting, too. Hold her hands to balance her since that's a lot of the reason it's hard to go--you're more focused on not falling over and you can't concentrate on peeing. Make sure her pants are not all the way around her ankles-try to keep them just below her knees because that will keep them pulled forward. Then just wait. It might take a couple of tries but sooner or later she's going to get it-but take a pack of baby wipes or wet naps to wipe off any accidents on her legs. Enjoy your weekend!

My guess is that if she were your 5-year-old son, you'd have her aim... do the same thing! I learned early on that you can aim (as well as squat, if need be) using your hand.

I also know that they make disposable cups that look a lot like funnels that fit women so that they can pee standing in the woods if they choose.

It also might be easier to have her wear a skirt and try it the first few times.

Let her explore what works best for her, but caution her about peeing on hills :)

This is an accomplishment that can only be perfected by experience. She may pee on her socks and shoes a few times before she finally masters it. My 10 yr. old grand daughter took about three times before she finally learned how to do it without getting wet.
You may have to help her a few times before she can do it on her own. The more times she does this - the easier it will be for her.

Pick her up and have her brace her feet against a tree with her knees slightly bent. Make sure her pants are pulled down and her shirt is pulled up as you hold her under her arms, so she's about 2 feet off the ground. This is how my friend does it with her daughters when they have to pee outside. The pee squirts forward so shouldn't get on you, just don't let it run down to where you are standing!

Maybe try and teach her to squat, so that way the urine wont go all over her, usually if a girl squats the pee doesn't run down their legs.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck,

Maybe yet try to find a bathroom.
Just a thought.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

Heck I still can't pee in the woods and I'm 30. If she needs to go bad enough she will.

We had to take TP and make a circle on the ground so our daughter thought God had made a potty in the woods!

we practiced at home in the backyard.. It worked out better if I squated in front of her. with my hands on her knees, so she knew she wouldn't topple over.

I'm not sure I can explain this in a way for you to see it in your head. Picture yourself standing with your arms hanging down and your fingers intertwined, kind of like a swing. have your daughter sit in the swing with her back against your body and your intertwined fingers under her knees. I held my daughter this way and she was able to potty in the woods. Maybe let her watch you go and then try the swing. good luck

I just posted something similar to another Question... They make portable potty chairs for toddlers! Go to www.babiesrus.com! They range in price from $9.99 - $24.99 for two different versions. Search for "potty on the go" or just look under potty chairs on their site. They are portable potty chairs that you can just take with you in the car...and I'm sure they are lightweight enough for packing with your hiking gear. Good luck!
