First of all, when people ask you all if you are together, how does he react? You should be able to tell a little by how he reacts to that. If I were you I would just go for it and ask him. You only live once and he is your best friend. What would be better than dating your best friend? I'm sure that it has crossed his mind a time or two also. Good Luck!

You need to ask yourself how you feel about him? How would you feel if he had a girlfriend? Does he ever talk to you about girls he fancies?

Ive had alot of bloke friends that have been a close friend to me and the only one who didnt fancy me was the one that was gay - all the others confessed that they liked me more than just a friend and i didnt even see it so were not as close as we were - i've never know a guy to be close friends with a girl unless they end up falling for them or they already have - I'm not saying it can't happen but thats from my own experiances!!!

He could be but don't push it. I had a best friend that was a guy in high school. Years later we ran into each other. He admitted that he had a crush on me all that time and we tried to date (as adults) and it didn't work....I wouldn't push it. I've tried a couple of times to date my guy friends. You may ruin things. He may be thinking that way but don't ask. Just leave it.

Well the question is, how do you feel about him? If you like him, then why dont you ask them if he ever sees your friendship blossom? And if he says no, then dont ruin your friendship and push it! But let it naturally happen if he does feel the same.

What should be between you both other than friendship? If you're thinking about sex then you ought to discuss it with him and if both of you are not convinced then keep it at friendship level.

it doesn't have to be so that he automatically thinks of you any other way than a platonic friend. But ask if you want to take it further.

one of my best mates is female and we are constantly being asked if there is anything more between us, but neither of us feel that way about each other

I don't reccomend it. Because then, if you break up, you've lost your best friend. And, unfrtunately, it usually happens like that.
