That would depend on the breed of dog and the age of a dog. If you have a giant breed dog that is still a puppy than no.
But if you have a regular breed dog or mixed breed dog no matter what the age than that is great exercise.
Giant breeds cant have that much exercise until they are about 1 year of age. That way you don't cause joint problems.
Giant breeds such as the Mastiffs and Great Danes.

Depends on a lot of things..How fast is the walk, what kind of dog you have, is your dog use to it..Only you know your dog and if he can go that distance. Is it to hot or to cold. I would never take a dog for a walk that long. For one thing you would need to take lots of water, find a shade for the dog to rest, then again you just might end up carring the dog for the last 5 miles. A good walk for thirty minutes with the dog and walk the next five miles yourself. After two feet my dogs would be looking at me as if to say "You , got to be kidding me". I would say 4 - 6 miles is to long.

Just observe your dog's behavior. You'll notice if he is getting too tired. The most important thing is to bring water for both yourself and your dog. It's important for you both to keep hydrated, especially with such a long walk. My mini poodle would never be able to make it 4 miles. Two miles is about his limit. He also needs water after every mile at the very least and more often during our summer walks. I suspect a larger dog would have no problem with a long walk and may even require that amount of exercise.

It depends on the age and health of the dog. Older dogs, say about 9 or 10 years old even in good health can tire from such a long walk.

I live on a farm and can say my dogs have covered at least 6 miles a day. on their own initiative. We have a Bichon ( 15 lbs) that goes on a 2 mile walk with us in addition to all the side trips and running on his own.
A little humor here..........consider certain walks now adays might require a dog to be safe!

It depends on the age, health and size of the dog. Dogs love to be walked on a leash so if your dog is healthy, give it a try.
If your dog starts to get tired, you will see signs that he/she is ready to go home.

A midsize to big dog should be fine. So should a small dog with lots of energy, but the little guys might get tired quicker. Be prepared to carry about half the way if you have a little guy.

If the dog is younger than 18 months then it would be too much. Dogs musculo skeletal systems mature around 18 months. Forced exercise before that time can cause developemental problems.

It depends on the size. If you have a big active dog you will probably be fine. But ifg you have a small dog go for a shorter walk.

Well, it would be best (for a smaller dog) to go a little shorter. See, i depends on the size and breed. Also the easiest way is to see wat ur dog does after the walk. if he/she pants and gets really pooped out, it would b time 2 go less for a walk. If not, your fine!
