A traditional Irish recipe, that really works.
A measure of whiskey, a slice of lemon, 3 cloves, and a spoonful of honey.
Put all ingredients into a glass with a spoon and pour in boiling water, the spoon stops the glass from cracking.
Sip slowly, and go to bed.
The whiskey flavour is softened by the cloves and honey.
But you can use brandy I suppose, but whiskey is the normal 'cure'

It has been proven that drinking red wine reduces the number of bacteria you have from a cold, however, this is a only a very short term effect. I prefer whiskey for a cold. I don't think it really helps, you are just too drunk to care!

I dont like whiskey, but a hot honey, lemon and whisky drink taken with 2 paracetamols will work wonders. Everyone who has answered that no alcohol is good for a cold has missed the point! Alcohol doesnt actually help to cure the cold, but the alcohol mixed with the honey and lemon and paracetamols will soothe your throat, ease your headache, and help you sleep! Sleep is the best cure for illness, so in effect the alcohol is helping!

No alcohol is good for a cold - it's an old wives take to take alcohol. Actually it dehydrates you, and leaves you feeling hungover - worse than your cold! The only reason people think it is good is because it temporarily has a warming effect (brandy/whisky eyc) on your throat and makes you feel drowsy. You would be MUCH better off if you just took paracetamol or Lemsips etc at the right dose - trust me, alcohol is much worse for you and will make you feel terrible, taking longer for your body to defend off the cold.
