I don't think that humans effect the enviroment at all. I think that if you look further back in history there have been greater temperature changes than the one we are currently going through. I think that the whole "Green " issue is Political only to stop development in third world countries.
Why do we insist on countries in Africa using Solar Power, when it is well known that solar power is one of the most ineffecient producers of electricity, especially when the country has vast resorces of oil, coal and natural gas?

I really can't understand why people get so irate about this subject.
Maybe if they researched the facts then they could come up with a better answer rather than cheap abuse. ( Quite boring really...)

So I guess you've got a vested interest in global warming continuing, otherwise you'd be out of a job, right?

There was some very damning evidence presented on Channel 4 (in the UK) last night.

There is a historical relationship between temperature and CO2 - but it is the temperature that drives the CO2 and not the other way round. Water vapour is a MUCH more important greenhouse gas that CO2, but we don't seem to care about that.

I don't doubt that the pollutants from cars make our lives more miserable, but I now firmly beleive that the CO2 we produce isn't a major factor in climate change.....

EDIT= Alik411 - So, how did we get out of the last ice age?? If you don't know what you're talking about - keep your mouth shut!!

People seem to be getting the wrong end of the stick here - like Kenny C - We're not saying that the world isn't getting warmer - it is (and it has been for hundreds of years).

What was pointed out was that the level of CO2 in the atmosphere is dependant upon the global temperature - not the other way round. Additionally, the amount of CO2 produced by human activity is a tiny fraction of what is being produced naturally - and has no bearing on the case at all.

On one of the other threads someone was banging on about the ozone layer and pollution - they are separate problems - yes we can cause smog and acid rain from burning coal - yes we can cause damage to the ozone layer with the use of CFCs - neither of these things have anything to do with global warming. The ozone layer protects us from UV - it doesn't have any bearing on global temperatures (it's too high up and it's transparent to IF).

From 1940 to 1970 the global temperature went down - scientists were saying that we were heading for another ice age - then the temperature started to go up again - it could quite as easily start to go down (and boy would the GW advocates have egg on their faces!)

The planet only gets colder? Alik411 you're an imbecile...

I admit that the whole opression of emerging 3rd world countries is open for debate but I have been sceptical for a good while now about whether or not we have anything to do with the earths state. I think we would be idiots to believe that, in the grand scheme of the earths vast ecology, we are that important or significant.

i.e. Between now and the next 900 years, the Yellowstone Volcano in the US (to name but one) could erupt, blowing enough emissions into the atmosphere to (probably) cause the extinction of the human race (and many other species).... As the thick sulphur cloud disperses far and wide, creating and unbreathable atmosphere and sunlight and heat is blocked from the sun, we'll be standing at bus stops, waiting for battery powered carriages wearing hemp suits thinking "How fu cking numb are we?"

The earths getting warmer: we didn't do it, we can't stop it, we're not powerful enough. Stop listening to the tree-hugging di ckheads who blindly follow an idea 'cos it gives them something to whinge about, when all the while they're just kissing the nuts of the government.

it's true that the thing about human activities affecting the planet's climate is still being treated with skepticism by a small group of scientists AND POLITICIANS (my perspective is that there's a lot of politics involved in not accepting the green issue too; if you would just try to you'll find out that the climate change issue was first addressed in the early 70s but was largely ignored for more than half a decade and two) ......but this doesnt mean that the small group is blessed with the absolute truth. in fact, there's NO WAY to know the absolute truth but to wait and watch.

the point is - are we brave enough to take this mighty risk of not treating the issue seriously?? coz if we commit the slightest mistake it might be too late.. and we'll have to forsake some comforts that we are enjoying now.

This planet had a beginning, so it will also have an end. But that does not mean we should mess around with it. What may happen is that if we do not keep order, but behave recklessly by polluting the environment, over-polpulating the earth and over-consuming its resources, human life may disappear sooner than later. When that happens, the earth will get a breathing space and then bounce back to life after going thru the necessary regeneration. Keeping the planet sane is therefore in our own interest. Whether one believes in Greenhouse gases or not, there are certain commonsense actions we all need to take to safeguard our continued existence here on earth. Planet Earth will always take care of itself, but that may not always be to our advantage if we refuse to act like the rational beings we are supposed to be.

FWIW, neither do I. But I *do* believe that we're experiencing a warming trend. But, given the overwhelming geological evidence, I believe that the Earth has gone through periods when it was much hotter (as well as cooler) than it is now, and that the current warming trend is almost certainly a natural one. Or, at least, 'mostly' natural.

But I *also* believe that we should be ashamed of ourselves for the general way in which we've screwed up the environment (with a capital 'F' ☺). and that we really should get off of our sorry αsses and do something about it.

HTH ☺

If you look up any global temperature chart on the net, you'll find the earth's temperature has only increased by about 6/10 of one degree (C) - that's 1.1 degree (F), in the last 125 years. So yes, the globe is warming up, but it's not overheating like some would have you to believe. http://data.giss.nasa.gov:80/gistemp/2005/2005cal_fig1.gif

If the climate change alarmists are serious about the warning of the impending disater, they MUST become vegetarians. The latest research shows that the methane from cows and pigs is a major factor in the increase of "heat trapping gas". It's actually 23 times more potent as a heat trapping gas than is carbon dioxide. http://www.greenpeace.org/international/campaigns/climate-change/science/other_gases

According to the newest UN report on Global Warming, "Livestock are responsible for 18 per cent of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, more than cars, planes and all other forms of transport put together." http://news.independent.co.uk:80/environment/article2062484.ece

So if Al Gore and all the alarmists really want to do something about climate change, again, they MUST become vegetarians and shut down cow and pig farms. I mean seriously, if they truly believe that global warming is as disastrous as they are preaching then they need to stop eating meat, period! I seriously doubt that will happen. If not, then they are the hypocrites that some of us already suspect they are.

Also Al Gore preaches to you to conserve, but he does not practice it himself. He uses 20 times more energy in his Nashville mansion than the national average. http://www.tennesseepolicy.org/main/article.php?article_id=367
One thing he has not learned is that you MUST practice what you preach... at some point you will get caught as he has.

I'm not sure about the political implications but I do beleive the world is just in it's natural cycle. - It's mother natures way of not allowing the world to become over populated.

I'd like to point out there was actually a HUGE heatwave and drowt before the ice age - Kind whats going on now! And how the HELL did the ice melt?!!

Is The Earth just in her natural cycle? - Possibly.

i'm nonetheless a sprint sceptical, in spite of the reality that i in my opinion care approximately our wild places. I do in spite of if think of that we ought to consistently take the possibility heavily. The info proves that organic cycles of climate happen on a grand scale. there have been as quickly as lions, hippos and elephants wandering the united kingdom nation-state, approximately one hundred twenty,000 years in the past. That replaced into an interglacial heat spell. the factor that isn't disputed, is that those issues happen certainly, in spite of everything the Scottish nation-state is crammed with glacial constructive components. in spite of if, the info ability that our extra contribution to worldwide warming is making it happen at a quicker fee than life can take care of. we are speaking approximately climate substitute occurring in many years, incredibly than spanning centuries or thousands of years. organic worldwide has coped with climate substitute incredibly properly interior the previous. woodlands and grasslands can pass at their snails %., to maintain track of the circumstances that experience them. recently there are extra matters. we've our organic worldwide trapped in wallet that are surrounded by ability of farmland. The organic "corridors" are long gone. organic worldwide charities are doing their desirable to make our wild places greater joined up. If climate substitute keeps as this is and there is not any area for issues to go, then we are able to lose plenty. besides, i think of my substantial undertaking is that i do no longer choose for it to be real.

People don't effect the environment....tell that to all the extinct animals we have wiped off the face of the earth, tell that to the hole in the ozone layer, tell that to all the children and adults in California that have a lower lung capacity than the rest of the country due to pollution from cars, tell that to the millions of trees cut down each year, tell that to the riparian habitats that have decreased 95% in the last few years, and to the wetlands that are also almost non-existant. Tell that to all the birds who still cannot incubate their eggs due to DDT use some 40 YEARS ago. I think you need to educate yourself if you think mankind has no effect on the environment...you are living in a fantasy world.
