The Drowsy Chaperone? The new musical? If so, it's about a big theater-goer in a crummy New York apartment and his love for a 1920's musical. When he plays it on his record player it comes to life in his apartment. The musical's about a girl giving her life on the stage to marry a man she doesn't even love. It is hysterical! The chaperone just acts as supporting cast always in a hangover. There's Janet Van de Graff, Robert Martin, the Drowsy Chaperone, Adolpho, Mr. Feldzeig, Kitty, the pastry chef gangsters, George, Trix the aviatrix, the four person chorus, and the man in chair (theater-goer) It is hilarious! However, I don't know what "chaperone" you're talking about! I hope this is the one!

I typed "Wanted: A Chaperone" into the"My Web Search" field in my toolbar, and found a 1902 novel by that title by author Paul L. Ford. There are 9 listings for different editions of the same work at Biblio.com. The descriptions are of the conditions of the books, not story content.
