I have learned, that whether it be friend or family, I get them to sign a promissory note saying they will pay the money back and when. If they don't want to then they can go borrow from someone else..

My parents always taught me that it's NEVER a good idea to lend money, however if you feel you must, this is the best rule to go by: If you are concerned about getting the money paid back, you can't afford to lend it in the first place. It's just a dangerous habit. You don't want people coming up to you with their hands outstretched all the time!

The best way to have no debts is NOT TO LEND. If U lend, then spend, and then cannot give back and so on, U will be a total BANK ROOT. But if you really need $, u can tell simply:
Sorry, may I ask u to lend me some money. I'll certainly give it back.
Could you lend me some money, please?
and so on. Just ask, if a person has $, he/she'll give.

If you really want to help this person, lend the money with the agreement of pay back, but dont actually expect it, especially if its a friend or family member.

I don't lend money unless it's a family member or close friend, and only if I can afford to do with out it. Then, I consider it a gift and never bring it up again.

Absolutely don't do it. You will have changed a friend into an enemy. If you really want to lend the money have them sign a note and be up front about expected repayment.

I don't lend money. That's the best way in the world to make an enemy. I'll gladly GIVE you want you need and if you happen to pay me back....great; otherwise I'll just get a resentment if the loan isn't repaid.
