since there is no god, there is no wisdom, there is no goal, there is no plan, then we can do every thing that we want to do.

Taylor,

If you knew anything other than the hocus pocus and fairytale teachings you have been taught, you would know that you do not need religion to understand good. I live my life for my family and the people I meet. The good things I do in my life are for those same reasons. Why do you have to have some irrational fear to be good? Can a person not be kind to other people just to feel good inside? Can a person not help the homeless just because it is the right thing to do? Why do I have to have someone telling me I am going to goto hell in order to do these things.

I spend part of my time volunteering with children and constantly giving to charities. All of the things I do I do for society, not for some misguided notion that I will goto hell if I do not.

There is wisdom. People have wisdom and I think everyone want to be good to others, but sometimes life experiences, such as how you where brought up can make people do horrible things. Often than not, this violance is brought upon us from religious disputes and hate. Look at the wars in the world. Look at terrorism.

Religion only gives us hate and is a tool made by people to control people.

There is a goal, you have your life, right here and right now. This is a gift, you get to live, you get to breathe, laugh, cry and feel.

There is no need for a plan. We make what we can with our lives and we make our own decisions. We decide for ourselves.

There are laws that tell you what you can and cannot do based on what we believe is right or wrong. Ofcourse we can't do what we want, we have to respect others, but the keyword here is that we have to respect PEOPLE, not a fantasy. Not a made up god.

We believe in thinking for ourselves, solving our own problems, fighting for what we want and not waiting for a god to come and save us.

I think you'll find that regardless of whether a person claims a religion or not, if they have no sense of morality, they will use whatever their alleged belief structure is to justify their lack of morality.

I am an atheist. Whether or not I believe in God, I know very well that my actions have consequences. If my actions are immoral, I will likely harm others and myself. This life is not an easy one - what reason could I have to cause harm in a world that does enough harm without me adding to it?

Of course an atheist believes in moral, in fact most atheist have more moral then those who claims to be religious, especially when they twist religion for their own goals and kill under the name of "God" ..... what's worse, they could document it down in a book and claim that it is god's will they kill, plunder, rape and etc.....

For Atheist, the most important part is their consciences, they work in the principal of "Do not do you would not want others to do to you" ..... For religious fundamentalist, they work on the principal "As long as I claim I work for god, I can do anything I like" .... Please check the Crusaders, the Islamic suicides bombers, the Tamil tiger .... etc

You need to believe in an invisible, make believe entity to have a goal or a plan in your life? You need the threat of hell hanging over your head in order to behave in a fair, civilized, and rational manner? Such a sad life you must lead. Just like the sheep of the real world, you sheep of religion allow yourself to be herded and controlled by fear and superstition.

I've got a goal and a plan to achieve it! I used my wisdom to devise the plan. I try to do all the good I can to everybody. Above all, I'm no believer (theist) in gods!

Atheists and agnostics also believe in morals. We also have our norms and values, we don't believe in your's though, or to be more precise we don't believe morals have been set by god or wouldn't change. We know that morals do and would change in course of time, and that there isn't something like a constant set of norms and values or morals.

I realize that you asked the atheists this question but I'd like to chime in!

Atheists can not have moral judgments. They are moved only by their instinct. To make a moral judgment about something being...bad... that requires that there be a complement, an objective good. There is no good allowed in atheist thinking, because all good comes from where?

*sigh*

at the very least this atheist believes in the spell check button.

But seriously, dear, people get their morals from society. Parents, friends, peers, everything that surrounds us. We have obligations to and bonds with these people, so no, we cannot do everything we want to. THIS is what keeps society together, not religion.

Atheists are the only people who are truly moral, because we are the only people who do good for its own sake, rather than through fear of Hell or promise of Heaven, or simply following what are imagined to be the orders of a deity.
