A person's pupils contract when exposed to bright light and open larger in darkness. It is the body's way of controlling how much light gets into the eyeball.

The first question would be, does the size of the pupil ever change at all? If not, I would take your child for a thorough eye exam and ask the doctor about your concerns.

Your child's vision requires that you be certain about this, and not risk that vision to the opinions of Yahoo Answers users.

If you always stay in a dimly lit place, the tendency of your pupil is to become larger so as to focus your eyesight from the object you want to view. But when you are on a brightly lit place, the tendency of the pupil is to become smaller so as to protect your eyes from the brightness.
But then, better go to an eye doctor. I am sure, eye doctor knows best. Hope you have a nice day, Take care and GOD BLESS US ALL.

If your son's pupils are enlarged and your sure he's not taking drugs then may be you should visit an optician . Have you shone a torch in his eyes to see if his pupils react to light?

It sounds to me like it would be more of a neurological problem. Does he have any other funny symptoms like facial droop, weakness, loss of sensation or headaches? I would go to the opthamologist, and also a family doctor to see if he needs to see a neurologist.

If you are sure he's not taken drugs then you need to get him to the doctors, they'll check him out and put your mind at rest of they find nothing.

If you're positive he doesn't take drugs you better get him to an optician rather quickly. You should never take chances with your eyesight.

Ehm... you get that when you smoke pot. I know for a fact, cause I smoke a LOT of pot. Otherwise it could be a sign of some sort of brain damage. But I think the pot is your best bet.
