I've heard it referred to as Wonder Water gel. I know you can also get crystals that turn into a Water-like gel when you add water to them. Not sure though, so best to have a look on the web.

look for "crystal soil" on your search engine.
By the way this is not only for articficial plants, as it is a very water - absorbent powder that turns into gel by adding water (200 times bigger than the original powder)and holds the water for the plants for a long time.
It is not the same as silica gel, that is the kind of stuff you find in small sachets in clothes or bags etc, it doesn't expand, it only absorbs moisture from the air.

I think its called silica gel or something like that, I was trained as a florist but when I was practicing it was very new and we still used Oasis or floral foam,
Oh and to the person who thought OASIS the band came from Manchester I think it was Liverpool wasn't? Or am I tginking of someone else.

silica gel, it soaks up any moisture, it is used in loads of things to keep them dry.
