An inflorescence is an aggregation of flowers. This can take many forms, some of them quite elaborate (like panicles). The advantage to the plant is that all those flowers grouped together increase the likelihood of pollinators finding the flowers and pollination taking place. This is most important for plants pollinated in the daytime by insects, particularly beetles and bees. Inflorescences also allow the plant different options for flowering: flowers can all open at once for mass effectiveness or flowering can extend over an long period of time to increase the likelihood of coinciding with insect activity.
