Well, if the mother is with her than its most likely the mom and is'nt a big deal, all moms do that. But if not its probably just a bad habit. Or, if your dogs outside it might not even be him doing it. If I were you I would'nt worry, its very common for dogs to eat thier poo. They have a disguisting habit of eating other animals poo too and you should probably try to break him of the habit.

Eating poo (otherwise called copraphagia) is not uncommon in dogs. Some dogs eat their own poo because they have been punished during toilet training. They have come to believe that the owner thinks all poo is bad, and that they are likely to get punished if the owner sees it – and so how can a dog get rid of it….? Others – often dogs who are kept outside in kennels or else don't get enough stimulation during the day – eat poo out of boredom and because ‘it is there’. Some puppies do it because they have seen their mum do it (bitches ‘clean up’ after their young pups). Other dogs do it because of your bad hygiene practises (ie not picking up the poo from your garden) - or from a former life in a puppy farm (where hygiene and clearing up are rarely a prime concern). Whatever the reason, thankfully this is a fairly easy problem to solve with a few practical pointers and some good management.
First of all get a check up from your vet to make sure your puppy is otherwise fit and healthy.
1) Include either pineapple or courgette in your dog’s diet. This seems to make the poo taste unpleasant and so deter them from eating it.
2) Reward all toileting that happens in the right place (so your dog knows that you really quite like poo!) but clear up after your dog immediately so he has no chance to eat it. Do this without any fuss so your dog doesn’t think the poo is valuable which is why you are grabbing it!
3) Make sure your dog doesn’t feel hungry between meals by making sure his food is fibre rich (which will make him feel full). Raw vegetables do this well – and help to keep his teeth clean.
4) Keep your dog occupied during the day with interactive toys, walks etc so boredom doesn’t set it.
5) This is something that most dogs grow out of with good management.

They eat poo beacuse the foods are so rich in nutrients that they are not fully digested first time around - a good way to stop this is to put some pineapple chunks in with the food - they really don't like the taste when it comes out and soon get the habit not to eat poo anymore

Apparantly this is a common thing that dogs do, especially (but not exclusively) by dogs who have spent some time in kennels. My friend has an old dog (now 11) that still eats poo. It's a behavioural thing that can be stopped as long as you discipline the dog as soon as it starts to even bend down to eat it, you have to be quick though

Take her to the vet, Im sure its just a puppy stage, but it cannot be good for her. Sick dogs eat grass, but not poo

I think all puppies do this. We've had 3 dogs and they've all done it. We kept stopping them when possible but they stopped anyway. My puppy at the moment eats anything!! It's a nightmare but I do think it's just a phase that puppies go through.

Lots of puppies do this - they do usually grow out of it. I found a good deterrent was to add i teaspoonful of pineapple or pineapple juice to my pup's food int he morning - apparently it makes the poo taste vile and they soon stop eating it.

hi! there replaced right into a programme on the different week that replaced into managing this actual concern (every time the owner took her canines to the park, it may run off and consume faeces). in accordance to the expert (a vet), the canines replaced into eating the faeces with the aid of inadequate meals, and additionally behavioural problems. The decision replaced into to enhance the meals ration, and to furnish added training to the canines. The expert had the canines on a protracted line (comparable to a lunge line used for horses) and allowed the canines to wander interior the park. whilst it approached the faeces, he could call the canines lower back immediately with mass quantities of compliment/enthusiasm, and whilst it back (aided by skill of a jerk on the line if the canines replaced into ignoring the voice command) it replaced into given a cope with and quite some interest. In precis; the owner replaced into coaching the canines the ordinary remember command, and making it conscious that faeces weren't the main suitable element interior the park. i don't be attentive to if this could artwork for you, however the main needed little bit of advice the expert gave, replaced into to talk to you interior reach vet and get your pup looked at (there may well be another underlying concern it is inflicting this). If it facilitates, i think of the programme replaced into called Embarrassing Pets or something alongside those lines. maximum suitable of success!

Sorry to say it but some answers here are wrong:
Puppy and "young mothers" do it because it actually gives them some minerals they need for their development respectively for convalescence.
I know it looks disgusting for us people, but it's completely normal. Do not worry. Any good dog book, Dogs Trust consulting centre or your vet will confirm.

I understand it is just a very bad habit that some dogs do. I would ask a vet for help. Hopefully, you can break it from doing that. You have probably noticed a really bad breath.
