ok my cat had kittens a few months ago and it was her first litter she had 6 kittens ok but it took awhile for them to come out the first three came out pretty soon after her water broke but it takes a little more time for the others to come because it's tough squeeze in the mommas womb so the kitten has to work it's way out and with the momma pushing helps too and so since it's the momma kitty's first litter it's going to take awhile cause it's small in their every thing has to stretch out that's what my vet told me.....and soon after the momma kitty is finished giving birth and all of the babies are clean carefully put the momma and the babies in a warm comfortable bed ok I hope this helps good luck !

Your going through the same thing I went through I was so scared for my cat when she gave birth. she had started giving birth at 10pm and wouldn't let me sleep everytime I closed my eyes she meowed I tell you that so you know to stay near her rub her ears and her little head the panting is mainly her trying to purr and pant at same time thats why it may look like shes in distress to you my cat whole body was moving up and down when she had her kittens, I was lucky enough to be able to move her kittens within the hour (which is beyond me the cat was my mothers and hated me growing up) I don't recommend it I was in fear from the day they were born onwards cause I heard the momma cat will bite the kitten's head off... Just a little info as horrible as it sounds.. Anyways she began giving birth at 10pm on May 9th 2006 ended at 6:43 AM May 10th, 2006. Don't worry aboutit love just stay with her. After my cat gave birth she ate two cans of cat food. Make sure the kittens do get milk from her within the first hour of life if you don't think they have with a TOWEL that is CLEAN and DOESNT have a scent on it gently and cautiously let her sniff it first and rub it on her to put her scent on the towel then gently pick the kitten up onto her nipple you may not want to do this but its a idea incase your fearful of touching the kittens. If she does happen to have a few more kittens also you might want to go to wal-mart and buy kitten milk theres a mixture one and theres also a premade one that comes in a purple box I forget what it's called but it's actual kitten milk and also get a baby bottle Just in case she decides she doesn't want to feed them or something for some reason and hey if she is ok you can also feed her the milk I was told to give it to my cat during her pregnancy and after. They LOVE it, anyways I hope this was good info I rambled on a bit.. sorry

My cat had kittens 9 days ago. 5 of the little darlings!
It was her 1st lot of kittens too.
Your vet is right, don't worry!
I have seen a few cats have kittens.
Candice cat, my other cats mother had 6 kittens. The first 3 came out within an hr & 1/2, the next 3 came out one after the other - like in 10 mins.
Last week little Azizi, had her 1st one & then 20 mins later had the next one. After that it took her 4 hrs to have the last 3!
This is true & what I'm trying to let you know is that like women during labour with thier child, they all vary to one degree or another!
Have you a big box or bassinet, or you could keep them in the bottom of your cupboard, or a draw.
Just make it comfy with old sheets & blankets that can be washed regularly!
Enjoy them you proud mum!

My cat had kitten last Saturday and there was over an hour between kittens. Just keep an on her. When she is done giving birth and cleaning up (this might take some time because she needs to eat the placentas), gently move them into a box lined with towels.

DON'T MOVE HER! It could upset her and intefere with the birth, especially since its her first. Trust me shes fine. Befoe a cat gives birth she wanders around the house a couple of weeks in advance and has alreadt picked out that spot as where she wants to have her kittens. As for eveything else your vets right. Shes fine, just sit with her and pet her and keep her calm. Don't mess with the kittens either. In a day or two you should brin ga box with a towel in the bottom and put her and her kittens inside it. And leave the box and her kittens alone for atleast two to three weeks. Some cats will stop taking care of thier kittens if you move them or touch them to early. Also you might want want to put your cats food and water in the closet or right outside it. And her litter box if she has one, so she doesn't have to leave her kittens.

Do not move her now. Wait a day or two. She needs to rest and feed the babies. Disturbing her will only cause her stress and possibly abandoning her babies. She picked the spot to have them and will be just fine. She has her instinct to go on.
