I'm kind of insulted by these answers from people who think fishing consists of sitting and drowning worms for hours while reading the newspaper. Why don't these people go to some forum where they have some expertise rather than posting their ignorance here? Real fishermen are too busy fishing to read a newspaper when they're out there.

As many other posters have commented, there are a number of fishing shows on cable and satellite in the U.S. As anyone who's familiar with any kind of TV show knows, it's easy to cut out the boring parts of anything and only show the interesting parts, and so you aren't "treated" to watching guys fishing and not catching. (I guess DopeyDora, JanetLouise, and BurntEmbere are as clueless about TV as they are about fishing.)

As to the real reason: the people at the big TV networks are just like the people mentioned above. That is, uninformed, and not interested in becoming informed. They may say there's not enough money in the sport to justify putting it on the air, but how can they know if they haven't tried it?

There are this many shows on just about everyday of the week. In-Fisherman, Bass Pros, Jimmy Houston, Bill Dance, Sport Fisherman TV, Bass Pro Shops Fishing, Cabellas blah blah blah... there are lots more!

because the contestants must remain quiet in order not to disturb the fish. Do you really want to see a load of men Generally speaking) casting lines and sitting down reading a newspaper and whispering about what a great invention the flywheel is, until a dopey fish decides to bite on a pretend fly? i'd rather wacth a bloke hitting a ball 300 yards and walk after it to knock it in a hole, sounds like fun compared to fishing.

It might be enjoyable to prticipate in but I would imagine the mere thought of watching someone sit for 7 hours holding a stick with a worm tied to a piece of string hanging in the water wouldnt make good viewing. Although, by some of the answers it appears to have caught on - i'm amazed!

I don't know what part of the country you're in, but in the Southeast it's not uncommon to find at least 3 or 4 Outdoor Channels available and there's almost always a fishing program on at least one of them,... damn near all of them on Saturdays & Sundays.

I used to like to water ski yet i've got no longer carried out that in the process 19 years. i like to stroll. My favourite game to visual exhibit unit is ice hockey and my favourite team is the Detroit pink Wings. i individually like numerous activities and my communities are the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons, and (regrettably) the Detroit Lions. In college i admire the MIchigan State Spartans and watch their soccer and actually basketball communities. In NASCAR i admire each and all of the Ford drivers, tolerate the different American vehicles drivers and hate the Toyota drivers. Carl edwards is my favourite.

Yes there are several programs on TV about fishing. There is B.A.S.S. that usually runs on ESPN, and there is In Fisherman. You can also catch fishing shows at different times on Sat. & Sun. on ESPN. For more info go to BASSMASTERS.COM and you should be able to find out more.

ESPN2 has fishing coverage most weekends during the summer. It's not live coverage, but a summary of the weekly tournament. They also have other fishing shows, too.
