presently there is much time and energy spent by students in getting to the essential fundamentals - which really get 'used'. also very often, one gets caught in the details - and the essence gets left out - like in my case!

what if - we had the essentials of all engineering and technology, and we studied just that. thereafter only applications and practice.

it's possible that this work has been done already by someone, and is available for others to use. Do you know if such work is available, and forward me links to it?

Getting the essence of engineering is needed to make the education more effective. This can reduce the number of years that one spends studying things, which don't get used in practice. Having such essence will save us from information overload.

Science (logical thinking) is the basis for all scientific disciplines that include engineering and medicine also. So, if you are good at applied science, you will have little difficulty in these apparently different areas.

Math, physics, and chemistry. It is all built on these disciplines and variations of them. The work that students are put through is to help them solve a variety of problems, some of which they will face that were never discussed in the class room. People with the experience needed, as well as others from the professions that have been consulted for course criteria are the sources of the class room work. It is all needed to get the foundational education needed from which to grow, and learn from. Your premise is flawed because of inexperience. There is no easy way out to obtain the knowledge necessary for one to know enough to be dangerous in their chosen field, until they learn the practicalities of their field from those with the experience that 'you' do not yet have.

Everything changes so fast if they taught too much detail in school it would be obsolete by the time you graduate. However a lot of change is just due to stupid buraucracy and nonsense, but what ever, good fundamentals is the only way to go.
