How does thinning your hair work?? Does it damage your hair?

I have thick wavy hair and want to lose some of it. Im thinking about thinning it but ive heard its bad for your hair. Is it?

They have thinning shears that they use to think out hair. Thinning shears on cuts a few hairs not the entire length. Imagine normal sissors but with teeth, the teeth cut hair and the non-teeth parts do not. They can also use a straight razer to thin out hair by layering it. As far as I know neither damages the hair, what youshould worry about is higlighting and coloring your hair, that is damaging.
