Could it be today? How would we know? Would a whole bunch of brand new animals suddenly appear, that have never existed before? How would we know that God had created them and that they hadn't evolved from a previously existing species?

I understand what you're getting at, the only problem is, we don't even know about all the species that exist today, so any new species found could easily have existed for thousands of years

(EDIT: lmao, I think I took your question a bit too serious..doh! It's ok, I've oiled up now and ready to function, I wont delete my answer, I'll just leave it for proof of not paying attention in class lol)

The only way of proving evolution on the grand scale has been through the fossil record....as far as I'm aware anyway, we can't really see speciation occurring because of the time-scales involved

I guess, if that four-legged duck that was born a few weeks back, survived to reproduce and its offspring also had four legs, and their offspring and so on and so forth, then that would be a good case for evolution and not simply (if was the case) a one-off mutation

However, as of yet, I've read no proof of this being a mutation...*goes off to search* :)

To comment on your two good presumptions. One there is a God, and two, he is in the process of creating new species.
Change is the order of the day.
Evolution is a slow diminutive process and history shows that
new breeds of animals do not suddenly appear.
Yes, God is creating new species though the process of Evolution, and what the end result will be only
God knows.

New species are a constant work in progress but the 100 or so years we have to physically observe the process isn't enough to see any speciation. We have to take a step back and put it into a larger timescale context. However we can make predictions based on evidence such observed allopatry

It would be very presumptuous to say whether God has finished creation or was continuing. We are still discovering new species in remote location.
however, all animal life, including insects, were created " according to its kind".

(Genesis 1:21) And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to its kind. And God got to see that [it was] good.

hhhhmmm what a stupid question the reason why we don't find many new species is because we only have a hand full of people in the whole world looking for them it can take years and years to find new ones. most no sorry all species are relatives to another. if you went to school you'd no that.
